The only river in Tasmania which is completely wild - it has never been logged, dammed, or been blackened by fire through the rainforest for almost 650 years.
The Arthur River cruises are widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful river journeys in Tasmania, if not the world. The rainforest area can only be reached by river and has a plethora of Leatherwoods, Myrtles, Laurels, Celery Top Pine, Sassafras, Blackwood, Tasmanian Oaks and giant tree ferns.
The beaches at Marrawah are also fantastic for surfing. The O'Neill Coldwater Classic has been held at Marrawah over the previous 2 years. The beach is approximately 1 hour drive from your accommodation at Tall Timbers in Smithton
The Arthur-Pieman Conservation area is also a perfect location for recreational activities such as camping, diving, off-road driving, canoeing or fishing with easy access to the river, sand dunes, or long sandy beaches. A drivers licence, registration and a permit are required to drive off road vehicles in this area. Contact the Parks & Wildlife Service for further information on the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area.
